What is FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC)?
FRC is a high school robotics competition where teams of students build and program robots to compete in a challenging field game. It combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology.
How can I join Team Type C 5526?
You can apply to join our team by filling out the student interest form on our website during the start of each school year. Prior experience is not required as we provide comprehensive training.
How much time commitment is involved?
The FRC build season (Jan-Feb) requires around 20-30 hours per week. During competition months (Mar-Apr), the commitment is around 10-15 hours weekly for meetings, outreach events and regional tournaments.
Do I need prior robotics experience?
No prior experience is necessary. We welcome students who are eager to learn and will provide training in all areas - programming, CAD, manufacturing, business, etc.
What are the different sub-teams and their roles?
Our major sub-teams are Mechanical, Electrical, Programming, CAD, Business & Media. The Mechanical team builds the robot, Electrical handles wiring & sensors, Programming codes the software, CAD focuses on 3D design, and Business handles outreach, awards & finances.
How is the team funded?
We rely on generous sponsors from local companies and organizations to fund our robot materials, registration fees, tools and travel costs. We also do fundraisers throughout the year.
What are the academic requirements?
Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing. However, passionate learners are valued over grades alone.
What skills can I develop on the team?
Students gain technical skills like programming, CAD, machining as well as soft skills like problem-solving, time management, public speaking, leadership and teamwork.
When and where does the team compete?
Our main events are the Regional Competitions in March/April, typically held in San Antonio and Dallas. Top teams advance to the FIRST Championship in Houston in late April.
How can I support the team?
There are many ways to get involved - companies can sponsor us financially or with materials/services, experienced professionals can volunteer as mentors, and community members can donate or assist us at outreach events.
